Many park agencies and nonprofits invite community input on park master plans, but Park Pride goes one step further with its Park Visioning Program. Created in 2005, the program empowers citizens to ensure that their communities retain their character through a unique participatory design model. Panelists will discuss Park Pride’s model of facilitated dialogue and a public engagement process that treats communities as design experts, and outline strategies that will help other organizations develop their own guidelines. The program has implemented visions for dozens of acres of new parks, playgrounds, and community gardens in Atlanta.
