Rain Down the Drain? Not Today! The State of Rainwater Harvesting in Minnesota.

Rainwater harvesting and water conservation is continuing to become more important, often challenging and increasingly vital for making our communities more sustainable for the long term. In 2016, the State of Minnesota made an amendment to the Minnesota Plumbing Code to allow for rainwater harvesting for indoor purposes like flushing toilets and other non-potable uses. This presentation will cover the recent State of Minnesota regulatory changes, opportunities for harvesting rainwater, the impacts on stormwater management and how this relates to LEED and SITES certification. For a case study, we will cover the project goals, stakeholders, challenges, lessons learned and implementation of the rainwater harvesting system at CHS Field, which has won several local, state and national awards for sustainable design and the innovative rainwater harvesting system. In addition, we will highlight other local rainwater harvesting projects that are under construction or in design. Finally, I will outline the opportunities for rainwater harvesting to help obtain LEED v4 and SITES v2 Credits.

This program qualifies for 1 GBCI LEED Specific, 1 GBCI SITES Specific, and 1 AIA LU/HSW Continuing Education Unit.
