The Saint Paul Department of Parks and Recreation has immediate openings for two positions within the Design and Construction Division located in downtown Saint Paul. Park’s Design and Construction Division is an award winning design office which oversees the planning, design and construction of Saint Paul’s 4,120 acres of City-owned and managed parkland and is one of the most widely recognized park systems in the country.
Our current staff of eleven Landscape Architects and one Architect work on a variety of publicly funded projects ranging from $200,000.00 tot lots to multi-million dollar community centers, major Como zoo facilities, and Regional Parks and Trail Systems. Our projects are exciting, diverse and many.
In addition to design and construction work, the Division develops park master plans for future development, writes grant proposals, prepares consultant Request for Proposals (RFP’s) and contract agreements and leads an extensive community participation process that is an important component of all our funded projects.
These two positions are available on a temporary basis for six and nine months with no benefits attached but may lead to certified positions. Desire and commitment to providing high quality design of new park facilities; excellent graphic and technical skills; and professional communication skills are a must. Strong proven project management skills including facilitation of community processes and management of consultant services are desirable.
The positions are responsible for working as part of a team to plan, design, coordinate, and implement capital park improvements in the Saint Paul Park system.

This advanced landscape architectural position exists to design major recreational development projects, coordinate the efforts of professionals on multi-disciplinary projects, and acquire lands of statewide ecological significance.
Develop and coordinate all phases of project design from feasibility through construction for DNR outdoor recreation facilities so that projects can be bid and constructed in compliance with State and Federal statutes, regulations, and code requirements.
Provide technical assistance to Program Managers, field staff, other units of government and the general public.
Assist Program Managers with their programs through analysis, public presentation, research, goal setting, and creative design and implementation strategies.
-Bachelor?s Degree Landscape Architecture, or closely related field of study.
- 3 years experience as a licensed landscape architect; registered with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design as a professional landscape architect.
- Principles and practices of landscape architecture sufficient to develop design, and produce construction plans and specifications.
- Prepare landscape plans and specifications sufficient to communicate requirements to construction project management.
Requires a Class D Driver's License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver's license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers as long as the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
- Experience working with public sector clients.

Landscape Architect - Entry Level
Landscape architecture at Barr is integrated with our green infrastructure design group. As much of the work is focused on ecosystem restoration and water resources management projects. Our projects integrate sustainable landscape principles and traditional architecture. Our work includes park design, campus master planning, trails and open space innovative stormwater treatment design, native plant community restoration, and natural resource management plans.
The person in this landscape architect position will work with Barr’s landscape architects, civil engineers, and natural resources group, assisting with a variety of design and planning projects. Much of the work will involve graphic design, including the production of plans, renderings, sections, perspectives, and info-graphics. The position offers an opportunity to contribute and learn here part of a progressive and innovative team that provides landscape architecture, landscape ecology, and environmental planning services to our clients.
Currently we are expecting that the work will require an average of 32 hours per week. However, we anticipate that over time the workload will grow to 40 hours per week or more.

The Anoka County Parks and Community Services department has an immediate opening for a Landscape Planner who will directly support Management in the long range comprehensive planning of the County's parks, trails and open space system. This position is expected to support the Landscape in the design and preparation of construction plans and specifications for development redevelopment in the 11,000 acre regional and county parks system, as well as the 140 mile regional trail system. This is a contingent, grant funded position; based on the availability of future funding.
