Theodore Wirth and Chain of Lakes Interpretive Boards
The American Society of Landscape Architects Minnesota Chapter (ASLA-MN) is celebrating the legacy of Theodore Wirth this year. Expanding upon a vision originated by Horace Cleveland, Theodore Wirth labored for nearly 40 years to realize the extraordinary Minneapolis park system we enjoy today. He championed the cause of Minnesotas parks with a combination of lofty goals and the humble-though avant-garde belief that parks are for people. The results of his efforts changed not only the twin Cities but the vision for parks in cities around the work. Look at any map of Minnesota and you will begin to appreciate the magnitude of his achievement. Recognizing that Every Map Has a Legend this year ASLA-MN honors Theodore Wirths legendary contribution. The year-long theme is being celebrated in part by a traveling exhibit about Theodore Wirth and the Minneapolis park system. Boards have been displayed at:
