ASLA-MN's 2013 Education Session

Healthy by Design - Bringing Life to Communities and Communities to Life

Friday, May 3, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
The Marsh, Minnetonka

In the past decade, the health care industry and political leadership have been looking at public health more holistically. As health-related research has transected social and environmental fields, a strong link between human health and landscape architecture has become apparent. Not only are leaders realizing that nature heals, but that specific studies now prove that designing with nature improves public health and builds community resilience.

ASLA-MN's annual spring conference "HEALTHY BY DESIGN" will showcase speakers in the forefront who are studying the effects of the environment on health.

The conference will teach you about Health Impact Assessments (HIA's)--a planning tool that measures public heath impact which is used as a guide in proposed developments.  Hear local HIA case studies and discover Minnesota's leadershpi in this rapidly growing market.

In addition, presentations on new research and projects will facilitate a better understanding of the role landscape architects brings to community health - from therapeutic gardens, to trail systems, to pedestrian-friendly streets, to outdoor classrooms--and challenge communities to develop in healthy directions.
