Thornhill Residence

BIOTA LANDSCAPES

AWARD YEAR | 2020

ENTRY CATEGORY | Residential Design

LOCATION | Delano, MN

This first phase of this project focused on creating a variety of spaces immediately around the house for an extended family. We planted 1000s of pollinator friendly plants that fit into the surrounding native, but managed, landscape. Our goal was to seamlessly blend the new spaces into the prairie, creating blurred edges between the spaces. We utilized materials that created an immediately aged feel to the space and respected the farm history of the property. This project serves as a model on how to create a rural landscape that lightly inserts itself into a naturalized setting.
