A Vision for the Basilica of Saint Mary

TEN x TEN

AWARD YEAR | 2020

ENTRY CATEGORY | Planning & Urban Design

LOCATION | Minneapolis, MN

Our proposal for the Basilica of St. Mary Campus facilitates this historic institution’s ability to once again fully live its mission and vision through the campus landscape and into the city fabric. The plan explores the role/responsibility of a faith institution to steward public space through expanding the relationship between the sacred and the city with the goal of inviting the whole community into the campus. The design solution transforms a site that has dislocated itself from serving the institution and the public, and provides a vision that reflects a comprehensive intentional framework for growth that leverages a pedestrian-centric, programmatic and sustainable improvements that allow the Basilica to realign its physical space with its vision over the next 20 years.
